Arts in Care Homes – Everyday creativity

” It’s nice to keep busy. I really like doing things with my hands”

Care Home Resident

In care homes across the country, care staff, activity co-ordinators, relatives and volunteers are running a wide range of activities, which involve art and creativity in less formal ways. These everyday activities can be a very good way of involving residents who are put off by the the term ‘the arts’.

NAPA champions Everyday Creativity, providing a wide variety of training opportunities and resources to help activity facilitators devise creative activities which reflect their own skills and interests and meet the needs of their residents.

Some examples include:

  • flower arranging
  • cooking
  • gardening
  • nature related arts activities
  • knitting
  • crochet
  • glass painting
  • making Christmas decorations
  • cake decorating

We would love to hear from you about the Everyday Creative activities taking place in your care home.
