Arts in Care Homes – Building community through the arts

“It’s like Piccadilly Circus in here. There’s always something interesting going on and people coming in and out.”

Care Home Resident

“Every time anyone comes into the home I show them our artwork – I’m so proud of it”

A good way to introduce more arts activities into care settings is to make contacts with people, organisations and institutions in the local community. Consider approaching your local school, garden centre, bookshop and library to discuss how they could work with you. Contact your local art gallery or theatre and see if they would consider doing in-house activities or visits to their venues.

Age Friendly Museum Network was an initiative running from 2016-18 delivering programmes that challenged ageist stereotypes, promoted access, created meaningful experiences, and explored how to work more effectively with and for an older audience.
